Rapid Tissue Freezing

SnapFrost® - Ultra Fast Specimen Freezing System

The freezing method chosen for your tissue specimen has a critical impact on the preservation and quality of both morphology and molecular components.

SnapFrost guarantees ultra fast and reproducible artefact free specimen freezing. The system uses an iso-pentane freezing bath cooled down to either -80°c or -140°c. Iso Pentane does not degas in the same way as liquid Nitrogen and as such the temperature is transmitted to the specimen faster and in a more controlled, reproducible manner. Molecular components do not have time to migrate into the specimen, cell membranes are preserved and tissue lesions are avoided.

SnapFrost Features:

Freezing Chamber

The freezing chamber is conveniently located on the top of the unit. It has a key operated lockable lid. The chamber has a capacity of 90mls. To use the lid is removed and the specimen is simply lowered into the freezing liquid.

Auto Timer

The freezing unit can be programmed to start and stop at any time during the day or night.

Choice of Models

SnapFrost is available in either -80°c or -140°c models. The -80°c version is dedicated to the freezing of more fragile specimens which tend to fragment at extreme temperatures. The -140°c version is ideal for all other specimens. The bath temperature is below the lowest water crystallisation point (-135°c) thus strongly reducing the risk of damage to the tissue by large ice crystals. The freezing chamber volume is 90mls in both models which allows repeated freezing procedures without the bath temperature rising.

Self Contained, Compact Unit

The SnapFrost is a compact floor standing unit. It is equipped with wheels and can easily be moved around. It incorporates powerful compressors and needs no external services apart form a standard power socket. The system is robust and requires little maintenance beyond cleaning of the air filter located on the front of the unit.
